Founded in 1905 by Ali Sami Yen, a student at Galatasaray High School in Istanbul, the club grew from humble beginnings to become the dominant force in Turkish football. Galatasaray have won the Süper Lig a record 24 times and have been a consistent presence in European competition, building a reputation as one of the most intimidating home atmospheres on the continent — their Ali Sami Yen stadium was famously described as a cauldron of noise by visiting players and managers.

Their greatest moment came in the 1999–2000 season when, under Romanian manager Mircea Lucescu, Galatasaray defeated Arsenal on penalties to win the UEFA Cup in Copenhagen, then beat Real Madrid to claim the UEFA Super Cup. It remains the only major European trophy won by a Turkish club and cemented Galatasaray's place in continental football history.

Galatasaray's iconic red and yellow kit is one of the most recognisable in world football. The bold combination — a red shirt with yellow trim — has been the club's signature since their earliest years and reflects the colours of the Galatasaray High School from which the club was born. The contrast is striking, the identity unmistakable.

Over the years Galatasaray's kits have been produced by major manufacturers including Nike and New Balance, with each iteration maintaining the core red and yellow identity. The away kit has often featured white or black as a base, but it is the home colours that define the club — worn with pride by millions of fans from Istanbul to every corner of the world.
